The Alder collection by Patricia Urquiola for Mater made its debut at Milan Design Week 2024.

The collection is made of Mater’s biodegradable material, Matek, consisting of coffee or wood waste in a mix with bioplastic deriving from sugarcane.

Matek is the result of years of research and development by Mater, and the result is a cutting-edge composite material that can be press-moulded to make furniture – and eventually return to nature.

For the launch of the Alder stools and tables, we wanted to bring the designs back to nature and thus teamed up with creative studio Tableau Cph to combine natural floral elements and the tactility of shooting 16mm celluloid film.

Film and photography was created in close collaboration with Mater and captured partly at The Lab studios in Copenhagen, partly at Studio Patricia Urquiola in Milan and partly at the rocky Danish island of Bornholm.
